If you’ve been reading my blogs, you know I’ve been immersed for years in the research and writing of my upcoming book, The Code.
But The Code isn’t just a book. It’s the five fundamental laws of something scientists call “self-regulation.” What is self-regulation? Rule of self. Self-regulation is everything involved in the pursuit of purpose. It’s persistence toward goals in changing conditions. Goal science. Self-regulation is more than just self-control. It’s the basic idea behind every purpose-driven thought, emotion, and behavior.
The Code immediately improves our practical intelligence and helps us avoid costly self-regulation failures, meaning failures to rule our lives, to effectively control the way we think, feel, and act.
As my book reveals, we constantly self-regulate toward unconscious but very real goals. And when we understand how self-regulation works, we immediately get better at it. We start directing our lives more effectively. Our practical intelligence, our wisdom, goes up immediately.
The Code is the five fundamental laws of self-regulation. That makes it the big secret behind all thought and behavior.
Problem is, nobody knows what The Code is. Most of the science underlying the Code is locked away in academic journals or separated in specialized disciplines. It’s like all the airplane parts are littered across the academic hangar, and someone just needs to put them together and fuel it up.
So I did. I created an integration, an interdisciplinary analysis and application. In the process, I discovered some original insights and new ways to connect the dots. And I simplified the ideas so we didn’t need a Ph.D. to understand and use them.
Since The Code describes self-regulation, and self-regulation is universal, the answers in the book have the potential to affect everything.
That’s a big promise. I hope I deliver. Part of me feels confident. The other, like Oscar Schindler at the end of the film, like I didn’t do enough. Not enough clarity. Not enough application. I hope I’ve done at least a sliver of justice to so important a subject.
